Obituary for Carl Nathan Johnson, Jr.

Carl Nathan Johnson, Jr., of Waco, passed away Saturday, March, 25, 2017, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7, at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Brian Coats officiating.

Carl was born September 17, 1932, in San Antonio, to Carl Nathan Johnson, Sr., and Dixie Mae Rider. In 1950, he graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. In 1954, he graduated college from Rice Institute with a degree in accounting and a commission in the Army Engineers. During his time at Rice, Carl played football and was in the Dallas Cotton Bowl game, January of 1954.

In the summer of 1955, he married Nan Sanders in Waco. Carl began his tour of duty in the Army in Germany, and Nan joined him there. After two years in Germany, they returned to Waco where Carl was in sales partnership with Todd Willis and others. He was an active member of Central Christian Church, serving as an elder and treasurer of the Board. Carl was also a Stephen Minister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and parent in-laws, John and Geraldine Sanders.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Nan Johnson; sons, Rick Johnson and wife, Karen, Robert Johnson, and Carl Nathan Johnson Ill and wife, Nita; and grandson, Ryan Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Cook, Larry Schiflett, Wallace Capps, Steve Wilson, Rick Charlton, David Dickson, Phil McCleery and Gerret Conover.
