Obituary for Mable Lee Tatum Warren

Mable Lee Tatum Warren, 90, of McGregor, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 16, 2017. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Rummage officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wed., Aug. 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey.

She was born on June 6, 1927, just before the Depression hit, to Samuel Wilson and Mary Ernestine (Crane) Tatum in Mena, Ark. Her mother and siblings settled in Waco, and her mother supported the family by renting the top floor of their home and selling Excelsus Beauty Products. Mable was attending North Waco High when World War II broke out. She quit school and went to work in the William Cameron Co. factory. After the war, she worked at dry cleaners and variety stories in Waco.

She made it clear by the way she lived that the three things most important to her were her husband, the Lord and Salvation. She dedicated her life to serving God through ministry to strangers, friends and family.

In fact, she was on mission when she met the “man in the big hat.” She was volunteering at Big Country Baptist Assembly in Lueders when he and a group with the Texas Baptist Men Retired Builders drove into camp. She and that man, Melvin D. Warren of McGregor, married on March 17, 1990, at Alto Frio Baptist Camp in Leakey.

The couple traveled throughout Texas, the United States and internationally at their own expense helping and telling all that God’s love and grace is freely available to all who believe in Him.
She delighted in her children and their salvation. They never doubted her unconditional love, confidence and belief in them. Her hobbies were sewing, shopping for bargains, cooking & baking, reading, singing hymns and Baylor Girls Basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters, Beth Taylor and Edith Baldridge.
She is survived by her six children, Bobby Moran, Hellen (Phil) Ballard, Roblyn (Ty) Wood, Kathy (Jerry) Page, Stephen (Maggie) Moran and Bonnie (Tim) Sorrells; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial in Mables’ memory to TEXAS BAPTIST MEN, 5351 CATRON ST., DALLAS, TEXAS, 75227
