Wayne Lee, 71, of Waco passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Ken Riley, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.
Wayne was born June 27, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, to A.D. and Imogene Lee, and he was the oldest of six sons. They moved to Waco in 1957. He graduated from Waco High School in 1963 and received a BBA from Baylor University in 1967.
Wayne married Sharon Summerlin, the love of his life, on August 13, 1965. He began what would become a lifelong career at the Texas Farm Bureau in 1968, where he held various positions until 1989 when he was promoted to Executive Vice-President/State Manager of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2006.
After retirement he and Sharon traveled and spent quality time with their six beloved grandchildren. They vacationed every summer with all their family at Lake Limestone, making many happy memories being all together. Throughout his life, Wayne was a man with many passions and hobbies including, but not limited to, woodworking, fishing, golfing, motorcycling, hunting, World War 2 history and all Baylor sports.
In March 2014, Wayne was diagnosed with ALS. He remained the picture of courage, grace and faith throughout his battle. ALS never broke his spirit nor waivered his faith in God.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; his son, Scott and wife, Debra, of Hewitt, Texas; daughter, Nicki Brown and husband, Sam, of Waco; daughter, Monica Anderson and husband, Mark, of Lorena; six grandchildren, Virginia and Summerlin Lee, Samantha and Cole Brown, and Mackenzie and Max Anderson. He is also survived by his four faithful brothers, Jay and wife, Marla, Dan and wife, Diane, Burney and wife, Kathy and Sam and wife, Mandy; and many nieces and nephews.
Wayne was a devoted spouse, father, grandfather and friend. He considered his family his greatest accomplishment and cherished family gatherings at his home. Wayne could always be counted on to keep up with his family and friends; making frequent phone calls to family and having weekly coffee with friends. He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers from Divine Living Assistance and Bluebonnet Hospice, especially Annie, Kendra, and Rachel.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
