HESS, ALVA MAE Alva Mae Hess, 93, of Waco died Monday May 5, 2003 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2pm Tuesday, May 6 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Art Torpy officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Hess was born September 1, 1909 in Waco to T. and Kate Caldwell. She was a graduate of Waco High School. She was a member of Austin Ave. United Methodist Church, Pioneers Club retired telephone employees, and Women’s Bowling Congress, in which she traveled all over the country with. She retired as a Southwestern Bell operator after 42 ½ years. Survivors include niece, Virginia L. Sherrell and husband, John B. and great nephew, John Charles Sherrell all of Waco.
