Arcadio Al Moreno, Jr.

Al Moreno, Jr. October 4, 1927 – Dec. 12, 2005 Al Moreno, Jr., 78, of Waco died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at a local hospital. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, Thursday, Dec. 15 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, Dec. 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence Soler officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Moreno was born October 4, 1927, in Waco, TX to Ramona and Arcadio Moreno. He graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University. He married Miss Janie Lopez Sept. 12, 1954 in Waco. He was a founder of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 1957 and served on numerous boards. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and the Chairman of the Architecture Committee for the Rev. Lawrence Soler Parrish Hall and Activity Center. He was one of the co-founders of the Waco Missions and served as President for 4 years. He was a member of LULAC Council #273. He helped organize the GI Forum in Waco, where he devoted numerous hours helping the community of Waco. He owned A. Moreno Grocery Store, a family owned business until closing and then worked at Piggly Wiggly, Lone Star, and the GI Forum, then ended his career at the Texas Workforce Commission where he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Janie Moreno of Waco; daughter, Marilyn Redding of Round Rock; grandchildren, Raymond Clint Redding, Natalie Jayne Redding and Matthew Moreno Redding all of Round Rock, TX. He was also survived by 37 nieces and nephews and 120 great nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Al will be remembered as a faithful and devoted husband. He was a loving father to his daughter and a loving grandfather to his grandchildren. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and was known as a respected leader in the community and was a voice of the Hispanic community for many, many years. Pallbearers will be Raymond Lopez, III, Adrian Carrizales, Alan Carrizales, Jason Duron, Robert Lopez, Jr., Wyndell Jones, Scott Green and Robert Grissom. Honorary Pallbearers will be Raymond Lopez, Jr., Jose Lopez, Vincent Lopez, Sr., Isidore Lopez, Sr., Robert Lopez, Sr. and Louis Carrizales and Paul Gutierrez.
