Barbara June Huggins

November 27, 1935 — March 17, 2024

Barbara June Huggins, 88, of Waco, Texas, left her earthly body for her heavenly home Sunday, March 17, 2024.

A graveside service honoring her life was held Monday, March 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery.

Barbara was born on November 27, 1935, to James W. Huggins and Floreine (Johnson) Huggins in Waco, Texas. She lived the majority of her life in Waco, residing for only a short time in Clifton at Willow Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center; the same nursing home as her great nephew Stephen Moore.

She attended Waco High School and Baylor University. From Baylor, she began her teaching career with Waco ISD. She remained with Waco ISD until retiring in 1997 to assist in the care of her great nephew Stephen Moore.

Family was very important to Barbara. While evident in many ways, a notable way was when she gave up her house boat, where she enjoyed being on Lake Waco, to put in a pool for her nieces and nephews. Several of which spent many weeks during the summer with her and their grandmother.

Barbara enjoyed shopping and traveling with her mother, sister, and niece. She supported and assisted family and extended family whenever a need arose.

Classical music was her preference and she could be caught conducting it while driving in her car.

She dearly loved her irreplaceable German Shepard, Grindel. She refused to ever get another dog so her family bought a large lifelike stuffed German Shepard that sat in her room at the end of the hallway. Many who visited the home were startled thinking it was a real dog.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Betty Kay (Huggins) Moore.

She is survived by brother, James W. Huggins, Jr. (Sheryl) of Woodway; her favorite great nephew, Stephen Moore of Clifton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Royal Manor Nursing Home for the support and care they provided in Barbara’s final days, as well as Baylor Scott White Hospice for caring and supporting Barbara in her time of need.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory on Barbara’s “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
