Billy Vernon Gibson May 31, 1926 - December 16, 2014 Bill Vernon Gibson went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2014, as a result of complications suffered from a stroke. A memorial service for Billy Vernon Bill Gibson, age 88, will be held at 1:00 p.m., January 9, 2015, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. in the Itasca City Cemetery, Itasca, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii the day the war ended. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Itasca where he served as an Elder for several years. Bill was a well-respected businessman in Waco for many years. He owned and managed Bill Gibson's Jewelry Store until his retirement in 1994. He loved the jewelry business and was considered one of the most respected jewelers in the area. Bill will be remembered by his friends, customers and business associates for his integrity, generosity and love for those he served. He always greeted his customers with a smile and made certain they left his place of business a satisfied customer. He considered them not only his customers but also his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Joe Gibson; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hermon Gibson. He is survived by his son, Steve Gibson and wife, Susan, of Belton; daughter in-law, Jan Gibson of Dallas; step-daughter, Elizabeth Mitchell, of Maine; four grandchildren, Sarah Park Richard, Emily Faust Brandon of Austin, Wesley Gibson of Belton and Brian Gibson of Arizona; two step grandsons, Denton Davies Lesley and Damon Davies of Dallas; one great granddaughter, Makena Park of Austin; and one sister, Polly Adams Ken of Kershaw, South Carolina. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sodalis for their loving care of Bill during his residence there. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Itasca.
