Carla Holley Childers, 53, of Waco passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017, at home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Steve Mansen officiating. There will be a private burial prior to the memorial service. Carla was born January 10, 1964, in Del Rio, Texas. She graduated from Connally High School in 1982. Carla's career as a McLennan County employee spanned over 30 years, beginning in the District Clerk's Office and then as the first Court Coordinator of the 170th District Court. She retired from that position earlier this year. Carla was well-known for her on-the-job competence, pleasant demeanor and constant smile when dealing with attorneys and the public. She was always kind, patient and encouraging and made a lasting impression on those who met her. Carla was a 32-year survivor of breast cancer and for the last nine years fought ovarian cancer, which included cancer surgeries in 2008 and 2015. Carla was predeceased by her father, Jesse Holley. Carla is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Holley, of Waco; her sisters, Julie Holley of Marlin, and Melissa Holley of Waco. She is also survived by her niece, Cari Young and husband, John, of Waco; her nephew, Chris Holley and wife, Tiffany, and son, James, of Killeen; nephew, Nicholas Bounds of Waco; niece, Brittany Bounds of Waco, and other special nieces and nephews. Carla is also survived by Jim Meyer, who she described as her best friend and sweetheart. Special thanks to Judge Jim Meyer, Lori Hartgroves, and Robin Leach for the time and effort they spent caring for Carla during her last illness.
