Charles "Charlie" Adam Zilem March 14, 1919 - March 28, 2009 Charles "Charlie" Adam Zilem of Bellmead passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at home. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Charles "Charlie" was born March 14, 1919, in Jarrell, Texas, to Adam and Annie Zilem. He married Doris Waller on April 21, 1946. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force. Upon his retirement, he went to work for Safeway Corporation, where he worked for 20 years. After retiring, he found his true calling as an avid supporter of veterans. He was a generous man who donated thousands of hours to improve the lives of veterans, and will be remembered for his ability to bring a smile to anyone's face and for his generosity to the men and women of the Armed Forces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Annie Zilem; wife, Doris Zilem; sisters, Annie Mary Huffman, Frances Page, and Barbara Lane, and a step-sister, Helen; brothers, Frank, Adam, Mickey and Paulie. He was also preceded in death by son, Billy Pat; and one grandchild, Michael Glen Burns, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Burns and husband, Mike; and April Bradbury and husband, Billy, of Bellmead; a son, Doyle Zilem of Waco; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
