Charles H. Walker

June 16, 1921 — February 28, 2006

Charles H. Walker June 16, 1921 – February 28, 2006 Albuquerque native, Charles H. Walker, 84, died February 28, 2006 in Coronado, CA. The cause of death was attributed to a stroke. Services will be at 9:30 am Saturday, March 4 at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church, 3701 N. 27th. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. “Chuck”, as everyone called him, was born in Slaton, TX on June 16, 1921 to William W. Walker and Gertrude McVeigh Walker. Very soon thereafter, his railroading family moved to Albuquerque, NM where Chuck grew up. After graduating from Albuquerque High School, Chuck enlisted in the Army and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. While in the Army, he met and married Doris Taylor of Waco, TX in 1943. Shortly following his Army discharge, Chuck, Doris and newborn son, Steve, moved to Barstow, CA where Chuck worked as an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement in 1982. It was in Barstow that his daughter, Karen, was born and where he raised his family. Chuck was a devoted husband to Doris and a loving father to Steve and Karen and he spent the majority of his time in family related activities, but not all of the time. Chuck like to bowl, play golf and most important, go fishing whenever possible, not to mention the frequent “power” meetings with his many friends to play poker. After retiring in Barstow, Chuck and Doris moved to Waco, TX where he lived until Doris’ death in 1999. Chuck is survived by his brother, Bill Walker and his sister, Betty McMullen, both of Albuquerque, NM; his daughter, Karen Lipman of Coronado, CA and his son, Steven Walker of Durango, CO as well as six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He will be remembered for the strength of his love and commitment to his family. May he rest in peace.
