Charles Zipperlen, age 71, of Riesel died Friday, August 6, 2004 at his home after an 8½ year battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Pastor Ivan Ker, Pastor Jim Daniels, Pastor Neil Burum and Pastor Jeff Gillum officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Riesel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, August 10, 2004 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Charles was born March 20, 1933 in Falls County to Charles and Alma Zipperlen. He was raised in Riesel, Texas and lived most of his life there. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. His rank was PFC and his field was guided missiles. After his service he went to work for General Tire and retired from there after 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alma Zipperlen, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Survivors include, spouse, Kay Zipperlen of Riesel; daughters, Susan Herring and husband Jamie of Riesel, Charlene Wagstaff and husband Russell of Sugar Land, Carol Burum and husband Neil of Garden City, Kansas, Lynda Shimodoi and husband Alton of Kihei, Hawaii; sons, Mike Zipperlen and wife Lisa of Waco, Steve Paul and wife Anne of Riesel; Grandchildren, Matthew and Taylor Zipperlen, Garrett and Joshua Herring, Patrick and Kyle Wagstaff, Brooke and Jackie Paul, Cole and Megan Summers, Megan and Patrick Schlabs, Morgan and Macy Burum, Nathan and Jordan Shimodoi; sisters, Dorothy Federwisch and husband Clarence, Selma Howard, Ruth Winkelmann, Ruby Hoffmeyer and husband Lawrence, all of Riesel, Annie Mae Isbell of Valley Mills and a brother Alvin Zipperlen and wife Yvonne of Riesel. Pallbearers will be Raymond Pena, Buddy Huckaby, Don Gillum, Dewitt Felkner, Roger Fitzpatrick and Thomas Leutwyler. Memorials can be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Robinson, Gideon’s Institute or to the American Cancer Society.
