Clarence Hollowell January 14, 1914 September 26, 2008 Clarence Hollowell of Waco passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 in Pittsburg, Texas. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30 at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Bert Mercer officiating. Clarence was born January 14, 1914 in Waco to Malachi and Beulah Hollowell. Clarence grew up in Waco. He worked his way through Baylor by working in their cabinet shop and graduated in 1938. During World War II Clarence worked in military intelligence in France. After the war he worked as a claims adjuster in the insurance industry in Dallas and returned to Waco when he retired in 1979. He described his years back in Waco as among the happiest in his life. Clarence was a member of the Crestview Church of Christ in Waco. He was an active member of the Waco Skeet and Trap Club. He was an avid bird hunter and his many friends within the Waco hunting community will miss him. At the time he recently moved to an assisted living residence in Pittsburg to be near his son, Jim, he was the longest residing resident in the Stillwell Teacher Retirement Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ruth Godley Hollowell; his parents, Malachi and Beulah Hollowell; one sister, Mrs. Early Robertson of Waco; and one brother, M.P. Hollowell of Waco. He is survived by his son, Jim Hollowell and his wife, Marilyn, of Winnsboro, Texas and his daughter, Lynn Barkema of Huntington, Indiana; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
