Doris Maxine Lewis

August 22, 1924 — March 21, 2013

Doris Maxine Cook Lewis August 22, 1924 - March 21, 2013 Having lived a long, fulfilling life, D. Maxine Lewis Cookie left this world on Thursday, March 21, 2013, with family by her side. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 25, at Waco Memorial Park with the Dr. Matt Snowden officiating. She was born to the union of Allen Enloe Cook and Willie Bell Mitchell Cook in Temple, Texas. As a youngster she lived with her parents in Temple next door to Harold Lee Lewis, but the Cooks and Lewises moved away for many years, and the youngsters saw nothing of each other until meeting again as adults. They were married in April, 1947, in Waco. Maxine worked many years in accounting offices for James Connally Air Force Base, 12th Air Force and VA Regional Offices, and received two Outstanding Performance Commendations prior to retiring in 1983. No children were ever born to or adopted, so she and Harold made many annual trips to Colorado, taking pictures and camping and "people-watching." Her husband, Harold Lee Lewis, photographer, who worked many years for Wendy Drum in the laboratory, died February 11, 2007. Maxine was a long-time member of Memorial Baptist Church, prior to its liquidation, and currently a member of Beverly Hills Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harold. Surviving are her sister, Billie Cook McClain; niece, Dana Langley and her husband, Kenneth; two great nieces, Renee Langley and Sarah Langley, whom she adored and considered her own; and several cousins. The family wants to thank Ridgecrest nursing staff and Bluebonnet Hospice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WilkirsonHatchBailey.com.
