Dorothy Kidwell Deal

DEAL, DOROTHY Dorothy Kidwell Deal, age 85, of Crawford, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003 at a local nursing home. Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with the Rev. Dean Reed, former associate pastor of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Deal was the youngest of five children born to B.C. and Alma Kidwell on February 18, 1918. She was 7 months old when her mother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918. She was raised by family members Wiley and Alice Mackey. The Mackey’s owned the Central Hotel in Clifton where they raised Dorothy as their own. She attended school in Clifton as well. Dorothy married C.M. Deal, Jr. on September 30, 1934. After traveling many years with the Montgomery Wards Co., they returned to Waco and settled on the family farm where they lived the last 50 years. She enjoyed many years working with the public at Salesman Sample Outlet, the store she and her husband founded in 1969. She was a member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.M. Deal, Jr. and her son, Calvin Jimmy Deal, III. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Linda Deal of Waco, a granddaughter Melody High and husband Lance of Waco, a grandson Cal Deal and wife Kim of Hewitt. Four great-grandchildren, Rachel Thompson and husband Wesley of Robinson, Calvin Deal and Katie Deal of Hewitt, and Heidi High of Robinson. She was also a great-great grandmother to Wesley Thompson. Pallbearers will be Cal Deal, Calvin Deal, Don Filgo, Lance High, Dennis Kidwell and Wesley Thompson.
