MCMILLAN, THOMAS ORVAL Thomas Orval McMillan, age 85, of Chalk Bluff died Thursday, November 14, 2002 at a local nursing facility. Graveside services will be held at 2pm Thursday, November 21 at Moore Cemetery, Chalk Bluff, Texas with Rev. Ben Disney officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7pm Wednesday, November 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 1124 Washington Ave. Dr. McMillan was born May 30, 1917 in College Station to Samuel A. McMillan, professor at Texas A & M, and Carrie Lebo McMillan. He was a company commander in the Corps of Cadets at A & M and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1938. After U.S. Army service, he returned to A & M to study veterinary medicine and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1945. His professional career included private practice in Duncan, Oklahoma and later specialization in poultry disease and research in St. Louis, and Springdale, Arkansas before moving to Waco in 1970. He retired from Plantation Foods in 1980. Preceding him in death was Ida Stake, mother of their three daughters. Tom’s gentle, loving presence will be long missed by his wife, Fay Chandler McMillan, daughters, Jacqueline M. Hedge, Jane A. McMillan and Judith A. McMillan; grandchildren, Jane McMillan, Naomi H. Lovallo, Stacie Miracle, Shannon Barnes, David Thomas Hedge and great grandson, Corey Barnes.
