Edith Elizabeth Barcus January 31, 1924 January 18, 2010 Edith Barcus, 85, of Hewitt, TX, passed away on January 18, 2010 at Saint Catherine's Center. A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 21, at Oakwood Cemetery. Miss Barcus was born in Hewitt on January 31, 1924, to Paschal and Irene Chapman Barcus. She was descended from Barcus, Barnes and Chapman's, pioneer families of the Hewitt community. She attended school in Hewitt and graduated from Lorena High School. Following her graduation from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Women's University in Denton, she taught home economics in La Pryor, Texas. Edith also was employed in drug stores in the Beverly Hills and Woodway area for many years. She enjoyed cooking, particularly cakes and cookies which her family and friends can attest. She was a member of the Hewitt United Methodist Church for most of her life. For the past few years she has lived at St Catherine Center in Waco. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers. She is survived by several cousins in the Waco area and by many friends. The family wishes to thank the employees at St. Catherine Center for their compassionate care during her stay and for the care and concern of Providence Hospice in the past few weeks.
