Edith Willis Edith Willis, 101, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at her daughter's home in Lafayette, Louisiana. Graveside Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, led by pastor and friend, Luther Burney. Mrs. Willis grew up in Axtell, Texas and married B. B. "Ben" Willis on December 22, 1927. Their married life was the perfect example of a "long-abiding love affair." Most of their married life was lived in Bellmead, a suburb of Waco. She was the mother of two children, Don Willis and Joy Beth Davis and husband, Edwin David Davis, Jr. Nanny was a strong Christian who was a Bible scholar. She loved others and was the most amazing homemaker. She was a gifted seamstress, gardener, and cook who loved her blessed simple life. Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her son, Don; her parents, Calvin and Genevieve Slayton; two sisters, Agnes and Sybil; and one brother, Irvin. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Beth Davis and husband, Dave; two grandchildren that she loved and adored, Beth Boehm and husband, Dr. Trey Boehm and Ben Davis and wife, Julie Davis. She also shared many memories with six great-grandchildren; three girls, Parker, Allie, and Cate Davis; and three boys, Henry, Davis, and Carter Boehm. Mrs. Willis lived her final years with her daughter and son-in-law and enjoyed her new friends and caregivers. Mary Chevalier was her special friend and family helper. The family thanks those who gave her special assistance including Hilda Brooks, Tammy Brooks, Rose Lilly, and Karen Zeno. During her first years in Lafayette, Bernie Gilley shared Edith's days and helped her adjust to her new way of life. The family also thanks those who offered prayer support through all the difficult times.
