BARRON, JR., EMMETT F. PONCHO Emmett F. Poncho Barron, Jr., age 83, of Waco died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 1:30PM Friday, June 14 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. David Leibham officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00PM Thursday, June 13 at the funeral home. Mr. Barron was born November 10, 1918 in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from Waco High in 1936. He attended school at Baylor and East Texas State University in Commerce. He married Dorothy Velek February 18, 1954. He served in World War II in the Philippines. He worked for St. Louis Southwestern Railroad Cotton Belt Railroad for 48 years before retiring. He was an active member of the former Marvin Norcross Sunday School Class at Western Heights Baptist Church. He was secretary-treasurer for United Transportation Union 937 and member of National Association of Retired Railroad and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc. Sports and politics were an important part of his life, having played tennis in the semi-finals in 1936 with Lefty Brown. “Ace’em Blue”. His parents, Emmett and Alva Barron and brother, J. Rayford Barron preceded him in death. Survivors include wife, Dorothy Barron of Waco; son, Ken Barron and wife, Joann of Spring; grandsons, Jimmy Reynolds, Ken Barron, Jr. and Kris Barron; and sister, Ann Allen and husband, Perry of Granite Bay, California. Pallbearers will be Claude Hopkins, John Dawson, Bud Turner, James Burroughs, Gary Powell and Crisp Pirelo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of choice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
