STEWART, ERA Era Orr Stewart, age 94, of Waco died peacefully Friday, March 14, 2003 at a local hospital after a short bout with cancer. Graveside services will be held at 1pm Monday, March 17 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2-4pm Sunday, March 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Stewart was born January 13, 1909 to William Neal and Maude Saffle Orr in McGregor. She was married to Joseph Haywood Stewart, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was grandson, Justin Horne. After completing her studies at 4-C Business College, she became secretary to Congressman W. R. “Bob” Poage. It was her first job and his first secretary. She was his personal secretary for 47 years. Approximately 15 of those years, she also worked in the law firm of Carlton J. Smith in the mornings and in Mr. Poage’s office in the afternoons. Her second career was the joy of her life. For the last twenty years, as a valued part of I’m Yours, Inc., Mrs. Stewart worked from nine to five, six days a week, greeting customers with a smile and making bows between sales. Survivors include daughters Susan Curry and Sandy Horne, both of Waco; sons, Bill Stewart of Taos, New Mexico and Jim Stewart and wife, Jan of Waco; grandchildren, Heather McCallie and husband, Jason, Haywood Curry and wife, Heidi, Stewart Horne, Briggs Horne, Jenni Grove and husband, Bruce, Penni Smith and husband, Victor, and Missi Frazier and husband, Tommy; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
