Esther Frances Gibson Tietz March 5, 1918 - October 12, 2006 Esther Frances Gibson Tietz, 88, of Waco, a loving mother, church pioneer, librarian par excellent, and crackerjack chef, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 after a long illness. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 16, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jack Mullins officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, October 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. She was born March 5, 1918 in Eddy, TX to William Earl and Josephine Gibson. She graduated valedictorian of her 1935 class at Eddy High School. Frances, who married William Ernest Tietz on Jan. 18, 1945 in Waco, had a daughter, Judy, during their 52-year marriage. Frances was a charter member of Lakewood Christian Church and a diligent supporter of its activities. She and husband, Bill could often be seen driving on the streets of Waco as active participants in the Meals on Wheels program. She had been one of the leaders in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and also had served as church librarian. She was an employee for Waco-McLennan County Public Library until her retirement in 1983. She had worked previously for Cox’s Department Store and Central Freight Lines. Her cooking talent was blue-ribbon world class quality, including celestial fried chicken, the best east of the Rio Grande. She loved reading, quilting, sewing and traveling on antique expeditions with her daughter. She could also play a mean game of 42. Frances was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, William Gibson and Joe S. Gibson. She is survived by Judith Freeman and husband, Denne, sisters, Ruth Halbert, Josephine Stone and husband, Romney, and Bebe Benjamin; sister-in-law, Helen Gibson and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
