Twelve days before her 94th birthday, Helen Geraldine "Gerry" Reierson passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord.
A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2024, at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery in Waco, and will be officiated by Father Ryan Higdon. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Sunday, September 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco.
Gerry was born on September 28, 1930, in Afton, Iowa, the second child and second daughter of Marcel William and Mary Anastasia Reynolds Frederick. Gerry was a devoted Catholic. She graduated from Davenport High School in Davenport, Iowa in May 1946 at the age of 15.
Her family moved from Iowa to Waco, Texas in the summer of 1946, and she enrolled at Baylor University that fall. She earned a BBA from Baylor in May 1950 at the age of 19. After graduation she worked for Lee Lockwood for a couple of years and then accepted a position at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business. She became Assistant to the Dean working closely with several deans including Dr. Aldon S. Lang and Dr. Emerson Henke. She remained at Baylor her entire career, retiring in July 1993.
While working at Baylor, Gerry met and fell in love with the chairman and professor of the Marketing Department, Dr. Curtis C. Reierson. They married at St. Louis Catholic Church on August 1, 1970.Gerry and Curtis supported all things Baylor and attended all football games, as well as men’s and women’s basketball games. They were sponsors of the Baylor Marketing Association and funded a scholarship for marketing majors. They loved to travel and spent many summers in Europe. After Curtis died unexpectedly in 2001, Gerry continued to live in their Plum Circle home in the Baylor faculty area until 2018 when she moved into assisted living at The Delaney at Lake Waco. As dementia continued to worsen, she moved into memory care of The Delaney in October 2019.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; older sister and brother-in-law; and her beloved husband.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Jim Hurst; as well as two nephews, and two nieces, and their families.
Sincere thanks to the Delaney staff and Interim Hospice for their loving care of Gerry.
