Glenn Palmore January 2, 1921 – April 13, 2006 Glenn Palmore of Waco passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with Dr. Steven Mansen officiating. A Masonic burial will follow at Waco Memorial North Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Glenn was born January 2, 1921, in Chatsworth, Illinois to Thomas Benton Palmore and Oma Beatrice Palmore. He was educated in a rural elementary school and graduated from Lostant Community High School, Lostant, Illinois in 1938. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was stationed at Burbank, California; Kearns Field, Utah; Kingman Field, Arizona; Drew Air Force Base, Florida; Greenville Air Force Base, Mississippi; Turner Air Force Base, Georgia and overseas on Okinawa during the Korean War. Glenn’s decorations include the Korean Service Medal, Japanese Occupation Medal, United Nation’s Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with five clasps. He met LaVelle Bufkin while on recruiting duty for the Army and Air Force in Greenville, Mississippi and they married October 13, 1946. After his retirement as Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force James Connally Air Force Base in 1962 in Waco, he and LaVelle purchased a small dry-cleaning plant where they worked together at Glenn Palmore’s Vogue Cleaners until they sold the business in 1980. After nearly 42 years of marriage, LaVelle was a victim of cancer and passed away May 21, 1988. Glenn married Wanda Glasscock on June 18, 1994. They enjoyed dancing the nights away with the Big Band and Cabaret Dance Clubs. He was a member of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ since childhood, a charter member of Lakewood Christian Church in Waco and presently a member of Central Christian Church in Waco. An active church member, he did all the usual things: taught Sunday school, sponsored youth groups, transported kids to and from camp and sometimes camped with them. He served many times as a Deacon or Elder and member of the official Church Board. Glenn was involved in many community and business activities in Waco including an eight gallon blood donor, past president of Heart of Texas Gallon Club, member and served on the Board of Directors of Waco Civic Theatre, Precinct Election Judge, Bluebonnet Council Girl Scout Executive Committee, 23 year member Northwest Waco Rotary Club, member and arbitrator Waco Better Business Bureau, member Texas Association of Business, served on Town Hall Forum, member Heart of Texas Laundry and Dry Cleaning Association, member and Director Texas Laundry and Dry Cleaning Association and member National Fabricare Institute and Community Hospice. He was a Thirty Third degree Mason, a Past Master of James H. Lockwood Lodge, a charter member of the Waco York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies and Karem Shrine Temple. His other Masonic involvement included DeMolay Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine; Walter Baldwin Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; Royal Order of Jesters and an honorary member of Waco-Connally Chapter, National Sojourners Inc. He was a charter member of Karem Legion of Honor. Glenn is survived by wife, Wanda Glasscock Palmore of Waco; daughters, Glenda Rampy of Richardson, Texas and Paula Elliott of Black Oak, Texas; grandchildren, Shanon Elliott Hamilton, John Thomas J.T. Elliott, Sara Elliott, Stuart Rampy, and Lauren Rampy; great grandchildren, Logan Hamilton, Landon Hamilton and Jamison Elliott and step-grandchildren, Kaylee Glasscock and Courtney Glasscock Grandsons, J.T. Elliott and Stuart Rampy, stepsons, Gregory Glasscock and Michael Glasscock and Blue Lodge members, Tommy Grusendorf and Greg McEwen will serve as pallbearers. The Karem Legion of Honor will serve as honorary pallbearers. While the family welcomes you to make memorial donations to a charity of your choice, Glenn had a particular place in his heart for the Scottish Rite Hospital for Cripple Children. He often would drive young patients to and from Dallas for their appointments and treatments.
