Gloria Claire Logue

March 6, 1927 — April 3, 2014

Gloria Claire Shearin Logue March 6, 1927 - April 3, 2014 Gloria Logue of Waco passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Lakeshore Estates. A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 5, at Seventh and James Baptist Church. Gloria was born in Memphis, Tennessee, daughter of George and Ione Shearin. She was very active in Calvary Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ for Sunday worship. Gloria attended Memphis State College now University and graduated with a degree in Business Education. She taught shorthand and typing at a high school in Covington, Tennessee. She also worked as court reporter at James Connally Air Force Base for three years. After her children were older, she began a 20+-year career at Baylor University. Gloria followed her brother, George Shearin, to Baylor University to pursue a Master's degree in English. While at Baylor, she met and married Bill Logue. During their 54-year marriage, they had four children and seven grandchildren. Gloria could make anything. She was an excellent seamstress. She knitted and crocheted beautiful afghans. She cooked wonderful meals. She loved flowers and spent a lot of time creating beautiful flower gardens in her yard. Gloria was an avid reader who enjoyed all literary genres, but she really enjoyed a good mystery. Gloria could craft a beautifully written letter and was a lover of language and stickler for correct grammar! As talented as Gloria was, possibly her most noted quality was her dry, clever wit. She liked to make people laugh. She had many friends and loved a good game of bridge. She liked to have fun! The family is so thankful for all those who cared so deeply for Gloria during her struggle with congestive heart failure. The staff at Lake Shore Estates, especially Sue and Jennifer, and the staff of Phoenix Care: Sherri, "Denny" Denise, Mae, Jennifer, and "Ginger" Jessica, who were unfailingly kind, generous, and patient. Thank you all for loving our Mom! We also want to thank Nurse Gay and Providence Hospice for guiding us all through a gentle and peaceful transition. A special thanks to Joe and Amelia Sudderth for your special friendship with our mom! Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Logue; her parents, George and Ione Shearin; and her brother, George Laverne Shearin.
