Helen Frances Powell July 31, 1919 – April 25, 2007 Helen Frances Powell, 87, of Waco went to be with the Lord April 25, 2007. Services will be April 28th at 11:30 Saturday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with Minister John Rainey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Helen “Nanny” was born July 31, 1919 in Crawford, TX to James Johnson Sr. and Hattie Rowe Johnson. She was eighth of 11 children, and the last surviving sibling. She grew up in Crawford and attended school in McGregor. She married Willard Powell Sr. Sept 2, 1939 and they had two children. They were married 64 joyful years. She worked at Bluebonnet Ordnance in McGregor during WWII. Later she worked at Woolworth Variety Store in downtown Waco from 1953 to 1962. Many customers were served while working at the candy counter. She completed her career working at Lake Air National Bank from 1970 to 1987. She was a favored and much loved bank auto teller. She developed many friendships during her career and enjoyed seeing friends around town after retirement. Because of her out going personality it was quite common for bank customers to stop her at Lake Air Mall and around town just to visit. She was a member of the Church of Christ Southside on Loop 340. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Powell Sr., son Willard Powell Jr., 3 sisters and 7 brothers. She is survived by daughter, Frances Neill and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Holly Jackson and husband Mike; Robin Deihl and husband, Craig; Eric Powell and wife, Kathy; Terry Neill and wife, Marlene; and Theresa Schmunsler and husband, Brian; daughters-in-law, Carolynn Powell and Gay Powell; and great grandchildren, Michael Jackson, Callista Jackson, RileyAnn Schmunsler, Kimberly Cutler and Kayci Cutler. Pallbearers will be Terry Neill, Craig Deihl, Eric Powell, Bob Neill, Brian Schmunsler and Mike Jackson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association or your favorite charity. The family wishes to thank the staff at Royal Manor for their excellent care.
