Helen E. Lucenay March 10, 1927 July 27, 2014 Helen E. Lucenay, 87, of Hewitt, died Sunday, July 27, 2014. Celebration of her life will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Reverend Ron Durham and the Reverend Josh Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6:00 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Mrs. Lucenay was born March 10, 1927, in Neches, Texas, to Marvin and Floy Perkins. She married Ted C. Lucenay November 8, 1947. They were married 57 years. A cadet Nurse Corps graduate from Providence Hospital, Waco, Texas, Mrs. Lucenay earned an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1947. She shared her love for people, medical knowledge and compassionate touch with many patients. Those settings included: James Connally Air Force Base, private duty, labor and delivery-Hillcrest Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital Psychiatric Unit for many years. In 1978, Mrs. Lucenay furthered her education, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was soon named the Infection Control Nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital until her retirement, February 14, 1996. Mrs. Lucenay has been a faithful, active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, Waco. She served as Sunday school teacher for several classes. Mrs. Lucenay loved her Bible and searching for the Scriptures' deeper meanings was her fascination. She became a Bible Study Fellowship Leader and continued to be a part of that group, as a leader as well as a participant. Mrs. Lucenay also was active in three Bible studies a week up until her illness in May. When asked her favorite book, she would always answer, "The Bible. It is God's Holy Word and our love letter inspired by God himself." Survivors include daughters, Dicque Oliver and husband, Joe, of Temple, Texas, and Adelle Lucenay of Waco; sons, Dr. Harry Lucenay and wife, Nancy, of Hong Kong and Tom Lucenay and wife, Susan, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Jonathan Lucenay and wife, Holly, Elise Crapuchettes and husband, Andrew, Charles Lucenay and wife, Kim, Jennifer Brown and husband, Brandon, Bridget Lucenay, Wendy Middleton and husband, John, Amber Pugh and husband, Israel, Corey Oliver and wife, Brittani, Thomas Oliver and Tiffany Pifer and husband, Zach; great grandsons, Jackson, John Henry, Bennett, Austin, Cooper, Connor, Camden, Cullen, Benjamin, Beau and Miles; great granddaughters, McKinley, Eliana, Langley, Annabelle, Marguerite, Presley, Harper, Paxton and Baylee; a niece, Sheila Prestidge and husband, Tom; and nephews, Dr. J. R. Ivins and Ernie Ivins and wife, Pam. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Lucenay, Charles Lucenay, Corey Oliver, Thomas Oliver, Israel Pugh and Dr. J.R. Ivins. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Oliver, Brandon Brown, John Middleton, Andrew Crapuchettes, Zach Pifer and Ernie Ivins. The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Christopher Grant for his many years of service and to the Providence Health Care teams, including the emergency department, ICU, third and fourth floors. We would also like to thank Senior Health Care of Hewitt, and a very special thanks to the Providence Hospice family of St. Catherine's, who cared so gently for our mother.
