James A. Mcconnell, Sr.

March 26, 1932 — June 22, 2003

McCONNELL, JAMES, SR. James Alden McConnell, Sr., 71, of Waco, died Sunday June 22, 2003. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held 10:00am Thursday, June 26th at St. Francis Catholic Church with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery the Rev. Sergio Lopez officiating. A Rosary will be recited 7:00pm Wednesday at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Jim was born March 26, 1932 to Alden McConnell and Mary Salgado in Marfa, TX. He graduated from Bowie High School in El Paso, TX. He was also a graduate of 4-C Business College and attended Baylor University. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant. On May 9, 1954 he married Ophelia Campos. He retired from Word, Inc. after 27 years of employment. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His warm smile and quick wit will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William McConnell. Survivors include his wife, Ophelia McConnell; sons, James McConnell, Jr. and wife Susan of Arlington and Robert McConnell of Arlington; daughter, Martha O’Beirne and Husband Robert of Waco; grandchildren, Joshua Meckley, Lauren McConnell, Allison Shea McConnell and Lesley McConnell of Arlington and Ashley O’Beirne, Robert O’Beirne, Jr., Stephen O’Beirne and Kelly O’Beirne of Waco; godchild and niece Tina Villareal of San Antonio. Other survivors include his brother Robert J. McConnell and cousin Nellie Martinez both of El Paso, TX; sister in law Gloria Viera; brothers in law Joe Campos and wife Delia, David Campos, Everett Campos, Alfred Campos, Pete Campos and wife Mary, Bernie Campos, Robert Campos and wife Cindy and many more beloved nieces and nephews.
