JAMES DAVID SLOVER April 9, 1939 July 18, 2009 James David Slover, 70, formerly of Waco, went to be with the Lord on July18, 2009 after battling Parkinson's disease. Graveside service will be held at 9 a. m. on Tuesday, July 21, at Waco Memorial North Cemetery with Rev. Ken James officiating. A memorial service conducted by Dr. Larry Parsley will be held at Valley Ranch Baptist Church, 1501 E. Belt Line Road in Coppell, Texas at 4p.m. on Tuesday, July 21 The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, July 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Boulevard, in Waco. Slover was born on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939. Born and raised in Covington, Tennessee, he graduated from Byars Hall High School in 1957. He attended Baylor University and graduated with BA degrees in Religion and History in 1961. He also received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and a Doctorate in Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964 and 1969. Dr. Slover was a pastor for over 25 years at churches including Eastman Baptist Church in Overbrook, Oklahoma, Memorial Baptist Church in Pasadena, Texas, First Baptist Church in Victoria, Texas and University Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. In 1986 he became the Director of the Ministry Guidance program in the Religion department at Baylor University. There he worked closely with students who felt God leading them into full-time vocational ministry. Through the years Dr. Slover also served on numerous Texas and Southern Baptist Convention denominational boards and committees. Dr. Slover retired from Baylor in 2004 and moved to the Dallas area to live closer to his son and family. Dr. Slover will best be remembered for his loving Christian character, his kind and compassionate heart, and his desire to serve the Lord. He was a beloved pastor, professor, mentor and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Eudine Slover, his parents Ulas and Marie Slover, and his sister Rose Marie Ogg. He is survived by only child David Michael Slover, daughter-in-law Carol Glass Slover, grandson Seth David Slover, and granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Slover of Coppell, Texas.
