James Walker Broyles

BROYLES, JAMES J.W. Broyles II. Died in his home, in union of his loving wife, daughter, family and friends. Jim went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2004. Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am, Tuesday, April 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas; telephone:254-753-3691; 888-822-3691. A mass will be offered in Jim’s memory at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 Washington Ave., Waco, TX, at 3:30 pm , telephone 254-753-0146. Jim was born in Columbus, Mississippi September 22, 1949, he graduated from Starkville High School in 1967. Jim attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at School of Allied Health Sciences Physician Assistants Program from 1976-1980. Jim joined the Dallas Fire Department in 1968. In 1969, he took a “Leave of Absence” to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force, returning as a Sergeant in 1973. Jim retired in February of 2004, as a Captain in the Dallas Fire Department. After 911 Jim founded the a non-profit organization named Fallen Firemen’s Family Fund which supports the “Texas Elite” AAU Select Basketball Team where Jim’s daughter Janelle is a point guard. He was also a member of Southwest Basketball Officials Association. Jim was well liked and he touched many lives along the way. In 1992 he ran for House of Representatives for the 11th congressional district, trying again in 1994 for the same office. Jim liked fishing and hunting and was an avid collector of firearms. He was a member in good standing of the Kiwanis Club, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Moody and his father, J.W. Broyles. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Patricia Broyles, son, J. B. of Sacramento, Ca., daughters, Dr. Holly Doffing and husband Matt from Houston, Texas, and sixteen years old daughter Janelle Broyles of Hewitt, 7 months old granddaughter Haley Doffing, and 3 sisters: Julie Cain, Jane Malley, and Jan McEwen all from Starksville, Mississippi; several uncles, aunts and cousins. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers please make donations to The American Cancer Society, Providence Hospice, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
