As a little boy, he was sure that everybody was celebrating his birthday with fireworks and parades. Joe was a happy man, a great friend to many and how he loved to dance! His parents were Ida and Frank Matustik. Joe was the youngest of 6 children, four of whom predeceased him. Joe was a premier builder of fine homes for more that 50 years. He began his career as a young man working with his father, Frank, and later with his good friends and designers, Bill Davis, Bob Braswell and the late Bill Darden. Joe was married to Helon Sydow and they had two children, Larry Joseph and Cynthia Diane. Helon died in 1976. Joe married Frankie McBurnett in 1978, and was a father by marriage to her three children, Martha, Stephen and John McBurnett. They delighted him with eight grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed so much. And when he had enough enjoyment, he went to his room and closed the door. Joe was a faithful longtime member of St. Louis Catholic Church, and a loyal member of the church's Serra Club, serving as its president in 1979. Joe graduated from West High School and served in the U.S. Navy. On his return from the Navy, he attended Baylor before joining his father in the building business. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Frankie, with whom he shared 30 happy years; his children, Cindy and Larry; children by marriage, Martha Stewart and husband, David; John McBurnett and wife, Cindy; Steve McBurnett and wife, Marcia. His eight grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Carter, Cameron and Andrew McBurnett; Maxwell, Logan, Alex and Hannah Stewart, his special only granddaughter.
