Julia Colgin Buchanan February 8, 1945 - March 21, 2016 Julia Colgin Buchanan of Waco passed away Monday, March 21, 2016. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sharron Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Julie was born on February 8, 1945 in Waco, Texas, to Julia McKinnon Colgin and Dr. Merchant W. Colgin, Jr. She graduated from Waco High School in 1963. After graduation she attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Upon completion at Stephens she attended The University of Texas at Austin and joined the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Julie then graduated from Baylor University, where she majored in English and minored in Art, and was inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. She embraced service to many organizations throughout her life, including Waco Cotton Palace, the Waco Symphony Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Paul's Episcopal Day School, Vanguard College Preparatory School, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and The Junior League of Waco, where she particularly enjoyed her placement with the Art Center of Waco. Her passions included reading, history, genealogy, calligraphy, gardening and music. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed finding and sharing recipes with family and friends alike. Julie found the most joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She also developed many close online friendships across the United States and throughout the world. They were an extraordinarily meaningful part of her life, and she loved to discuss all manner of subjects with them, notably genealogy, history and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Buchanan Dietz and husband, Bill Dietz, Jr., of Waco; her son, Merchant Buchanan and wife, Dr. Ann Buchanan, of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Liam Dietz, Alex Dietz, Brayden Buchanan and Ainsley Buchanan; and numerous cousins whom she loved dearly.
