Mrs. Julia Wofford Norris, 88, died November 19, 2004 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 23 at First United Methodist Church, Cobbs at Lake Air Drive, Waco, with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park North. Visitation with the family will be from 7-8 pm, Monday, November 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mrs. Norris was born May 6, 1916, in McGill, Nevada, the daughter of Absolom P. and Phoebe Rebecca Cook Wofford. She attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce and graduated in 1938. She married Lonnie L. Norris, on April 3, 1942 in San Antonio. She taught elementary school in Argo and Arlington, Texas; Altus and Elk City, Oklahoma; and retired from Waco schools, having taught first grade at Hillcrest Elementary School from 1966 to 1977. Mrs. Norris, a talented member of the Waco Porcelain Arts Guild, was known among Waco’s china painting circles. She was a member of the Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association, Waco Knife and Fork Club, Merak Temple Number 104 Daughters of the Nile; and Waco Assembly Number 199 Social Order of the Beauceant in which she had served as president in 1992. She enjoyed sewing quilts for children as a member of Hillcrest’s Auxilliary. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, and was active in Esther Circle of United Methodist Women and Skyliner’s Sunday school class. She also attended the Downtown Bible Class at Scottish Rite Temple. Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, Lonnie; her parents; her brothers, Frank P. Wofford and William T. Wofford; sister, Lucille Davis. Survivors include daughters, Lisa Ruth Whittington of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sue Ann Campbell and husband Herb of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Francis Kay Koonce of Waco; son, Lonnie Lee Norris and wife Donna from Burkburnett, Texas, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brother, Keith Wofford of Cookville, Texas.
