Leonard L. Gorin, Jr. September 29, 1915 - November 16, 2014 Leonard L. Gorin, Jr., of Waco passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014, after a valiant and uncompromising struggle. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 20, at Rodef Sholom Cemetery with the Rabbi Gordon Fuller officiating. A visitation will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Leonard was born September 29, 1915, to Leonard L. Gorin and Evelyn Adams Gorin and spent 99 years in Waco, with the exception of four years in the Army during WWII, 1942 1945 . He began his schooling in Mrs. Greenhill's Kindergarten and graduated from Waco High School in 1932. He then earned a law degree cum laude from Baylor Law School in 1937. He served diligently in the Counter Intelligence Corps from early 1942 to the end of 1945. After WWII, he retrieved his desk from storage and started back to work and enjoying life. Leonard was dedicated to the law, with justice for all, and was held in high esteem by many persons during over 50 years of practice. He also served as president of the McLennan County Bar Association. In 1966, at age 50, he married Evelyn S. Larson, in Los Altos Hills, California, and life took on real meaning and much happiness. He and Evelyn, whom he said was born with "gypsy feet", traveled all over the world. He was always an avid reader and took great pleasure from sculpting in stone, which resulted in a number of fine specimens. A pleasure to him, also, was the weekly luncheon of the "Geezers", namely, Bobby Braswell, David Kopplin, Larry Pennington, Kent Rindy, Dr. Bill Roddy, Henry Walbesser and Milton Wilson. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Vera Gorin; and his sister, Vera Goldfarb and her husband, Eugene, all of Waco. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Evelyn Gorin; and his second cousins, Frances Kaplin of Ewing, New Jersey and Ann Pomerance and Adele Herzstein, both of San Antonio. Special thanks are due to Providence Drs. Michael Jahrmarkt, Nick Schwedock and staff. Memorials may be made to Temple Rodef Shalom, 1717 N. New Road, Waco TX 76707 or to The Leukemia Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605.
