Leta B. Hartgroves

Leta B. Hartgroves July 3, 1938 February 22, 2014 Leta Bell Cupp Hartgroves, 75, of Waco, passed away on Saturday, February, 22, 2014, at Providence Hospice Place. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with Pastor Terry Graham officiating and Ralph Sparks providing music. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, February 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Leta was born July 3, 1938, in Waco, Texas to Thomas and Juanita Kelly Cupp. She graduated from Waco High and married her high school sweetheart, Ollie E. O. E. Hartgroves, Jr., on July 23, 1957. Leta attended Baylor University, received her undergraduate degree from Texas A & M University, and her Master's Degree from Tarleton State University. The Waco area has been her home since relocating from Bryan in 1983. Leta was a retired teacher of Waco ISD, having taught at Sul Ross and Bells Hill Elementary. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Woodway. She was a member of the Laureate Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she pledged in 1964. Leta was the first female member of the Hewitt Lion's Club when she joined in 1992, and was their first female president. Leta was also a member of the Texas Retired Teacher's Association, the Historic Waco Foundation and the Red Hat Turn-ups. Leta was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Ollie E. Hartgroves, Sr., and Kathleen Shelton Hartgroves. Leta is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, O. E., and her sister-in-law, Mary Caudill of San Antonio. Leta is also survived by her four children, Tammie Hartgroves, Janie Hartgroves, Larry Hartgroves and wife, Lori, all of Waco, and Thomas Hartgroves and wife, Kay, of Prosper; her seven grandchildren, Samantha Weido and Christopher Paulson of Bryan/College Station; Lauren, Lindsey and Laci Hartgroves of Waco; Jacob Hartgroves and wife, Ashley, and Justin Hartgroves of Prosper; her four great-granddaughters, Shelby Blakeslee, Taylynn Cross, Audrey Ludwig, all of Bryan, and Ava Hartgroves of Prosper; and her many cousins and extended family members, nieces, nephews, and numerous life long friends. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephew, Bobby Caudill, David Caudill, and Brian Jacob. The family would like to thank Providence Hospice Place for their loving care during this difficult time.
