Lois Jane Thompson Lois Jane Thompson, of Waco, died June 19, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 21, at 9:30 am at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Ron Durham and Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Internment will be at 3:00 pm at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, June 20 at the funeral home. Mrs. Thompson was born in Van Zandt County to L.J. and Mae Carpenter Melton. She grew up in Terrell, Texas and graduated from Terrell High School and Southwest State College in San Marcos. In 1950, she married Richard F. Thompson in Terrell, Texas. Richard was with the Department of Public Safety; therefore, they were stationed in many cities in Texas. She enjoyed maintaining her friendships from these places all of her life. After moving to Waco in 1968, she taught in Waco Schools and retired in 1988. She spent her retirement years researching genealogy and enjoyed her memberships in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She and Richard had enjoyed square dancing for over 30 years. She was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for 38 years and the McLennan County Chapter 639 Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Billy W. Melton of Arlington. Survivors include her husband, Richard; daughter, Roxanne; son-in-law, Bryan Burchfiel; two grandchildren, Brayson and Bryn Burchfiel, who attend Baylor University and sister-in-law, Iva Melton. The family wishes to thank the Margaret Mixson and the Frank Wilson Sunday School classes of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for their prayers, thoughtful deeds and endurable support and love. Also, the family thanks the care of Scott and White Hospice. Pallbearers will be Major Bobby McKamie, Major Danny Smith, Sgt. Peter Peterson, Trooper Gus Siems, Capt. Billy Ladd, Trooper Joe Goodman and Capt. Van Parrgin. Honorary pallbearers will be the Margaret Mixson Sunday School class. Memorials may be made to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church or charity of your choice in memory of Lois Thompson whose love and faith will live forever.
