PICKERING, LOIS ROSE Lois Rose Pickering, age 85, of Waco passed away Monday, July 23, 2001 in Waco. Services will be 1:30PM Thursday, July 26th at Seventh and James Baptist Church with Dr. Weldon Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Pickering was born November 14, 1915 in Morris, Oklahoma. She received a BA from Arkansas College, in Batesville, Arkansas and attended Baylor University. Lois moved to Waco in 1965 to work as a “dorm Mother” for Collins Hall, home to 600 freshman women. She worked for Baylor University for 21 years in the Department of Women’s Residence Halls and retired in 1986 as the Director of Women’s Residence Halls. She was a member of 7th and James Baptist Church, sang in the Baylor Senior Adult Choir, and was a former member of IOTA Chapter of Alpha Chi. She was a Christian role model and inspiration to many people and students through the years. Her strong faith and belief in the power of prayer and in the leadership of our Lord Jesus Christ were her motivation and the source of her strength. She was preceded in death her husband, Vernon, in 1959. Survivors include: Son: Theron Pickering and his wife, Judy of Katy Daughter: Gayle and her husband, Eddy Don Edmondson of Austin Grandchildren: Shelley, Josh, and Christopher Pickering, Colie and Corbin Edmondson Great granddaughter: Lily Hudson Brothers: Leo Rose of Prescott, AZ Otis Rose of Kirbyville, MO Tom Rose of Waco Sister: Blanche Morris of Manhattan Beach, CA In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baylor Senior Adult Choir or your favorite charity.
