Louise Frankel

FRANKEL, LOUISE R. Louise R. Frankel, age 83, of Waco died Saturday, February 16, 2002 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, February 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco, with Rev. Angelo Bertini officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5:00-7:00PM Monday, February 18 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey funeral home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Frankel was born December 7, 1918 in Miami, Oklahoma. She graduated from Oklahoma State University and served in the United States Army in France and Italy during World War II. She married Joseph Frankel in 1945 and worked as a registered dietician throughout her career. In 1965 she became the Chief of Dietetic Services at the Waco Veterans Administration Center, retiring in 1983. She continued to work as a consulting dietician and served as the Program Director of Food Technology at Texas State Technical College. Mrs. Frankel was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waco, Caritas, Ladies of Charity, Altrusa Club and Respect Life Group. She was known as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and a caring and generous person to all who came to know her. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph and son John. Survivors include her sister Betty Ylarraz of Castro Valley, CA; brother Richard Riley of Norfolk, VA; sons Joseph Frankel, Jr. of Clarks Summit, PA and James Frankel of Waco; daughters Betty Dirkx of Buffalo, MN and Peggy Leftwich of Waco; 12 grandchildren, including Christine, Melanie, Sarah, Joel and Josh of Waco; three great grandchildren and nephew Ray Frankel of Waco. Pallbearers will be Joseph Frankel, Ray Frankel and Leon Leftwich. Memorial contributions may be made to Caritas, c/o St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 Washington Ave., Waco.
