BLACKBURN, LUTHER Luther Blackburn, age 73, of Waco died Tuesday, March 27, 2001in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, March 30, 2001 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the funeral home. Mr. Blackburn was born April 22, 1927 in McLennan County near Riesel, TX, the eighth son of Bessie and Prince Blackburn. He attended Waco High School and graduated in 1945. He served in the Navy, returned to Waco and graduated from Baylor University in 1950 with a BBA degree. He went to work for Youngblood’s and managed several restaurants in the Dallas area. He also managed The Royal Tokyo and Sea Cave Restaurants. From 1975,when he returned to Waco he was self-employed until his death. Mr. Blackburn was a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM and was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Lloyd, Clyde, W.W. Tiny, Boyd, Eddie, and John Blackburn Survivors include: Five sisters: Nina Mae Ferguson of Robinson Donna Lou McCahon of Houston Jewel Copeland and her husband, Newman of Waco Edna Toodie Farney and her husband, Loyd of Golinda Mary Punkin Fore of Waco A brother: Claude Lee Blackburn of Waco Many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be nephews: Greg Fore, Keith Ferguson, Edvin Blackburn, Dale Blackburn, Doyle Wayne Farney, and Johnny Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Haberman, Jim King, Loyd Farney, Newman Copeland, and Claude Blackburn. Memorials may be made to Providence Coronary Care Unit or charity of choice.
