Mabel Ruth Smith

Mabel “Ruth” Smith August 7, 1927 – July 2, 2006 Ruth Smith of Hewitt passed away Sunday July 2, 2006. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday, July 5 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 3 – 5:00 pm Tuesday, July 4 at the funeral home in the Garden Room. Ruth was born in Waco to Sam and Minnie Sorley. Ruth graduated from Waco High School in 1944 and attended Four-C Business School. Ruth married Whitt Smith, Jr. in 1948. After working in Waco and Dallas, Ruth and Whitt moved to Houston in 1957, where they started and operated Oak Forest Htg. and A/C Co. until 1998. They moved to Hewitt in Jan. 2001, to be closer to family. Ruth loved spending time with family and friends, doing what she enjoyed most, conversing and laughing. She adored, spoiled and loved spending time with her five grandchildren. She was a devoted wife to Whitt and shared a love of family, music, sunsets, hummingbirds, flowers and nature with him. She was preceded in death by two infant siblings, her parents, her brother Marion Sorley, and her husband. Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Gary Youtz of Hewitt, son and daughter-in-law Whitt and Jerrie Smith of Carrollton, Tx, grandchildren Chris and his girlfriend Carmen, Jessica, and Jennifer Talley, Shelby and Whitney Smith, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Norma Smith of Hewitt, sister-in-law Carey Ann Smith of Dallas, Tx, nephews Ken Sorley and family of Woodway, Mark Smith of Houston, niece Kathy Smith of Carrollton, cousin Bill Swenson and wife Jadean of Waco and her beloved mini-dachshund Heidi.
