December 7, 1903 — February 1, 2003

MAE DAY Mae Day, age 99 of Woodway, died Saturday, February 1, 2003 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm Monday, February 3 at Waco Memorial North with Rev. Micheal Moore and Rev. Gary Tapley officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 3-5pm Sunday, February 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 1124 Washington Ave. Mrs. Day was born in Bruceville, Texas in December of 1903, moving to Waco as an infant. She attended Waco schools. Mrs. Day worked at Southwestern Bell for 43 years, where she served as chief operator from 1935 to her retirement in 1961. She later worked at Hillcrest Hospital for 12 years and volunteered part-time at Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member. In 1998, she moved her membership to Westwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Day was also a member of the Huaco Pioneers Club through her employment with the telephone company. She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Survivors include her nephew, Tommy L. Cardwell and wife Bobbie of Woodway; and sister, Patsy Ruth Sims and husband Lindon of Lumberton, Texas. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center or Royal Manor Nursing Home.
