COLLINS, MARGARET Margaret Collins, 89 formerly of Waco, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at her home in Denver, Colorado. Graveside services will be at 11am Monday, January 31 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Danny Tenney officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2-4pm Sunday, January 30 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mrs. Collins was born Margaret Sentell, February 26, 1916 in Alvin, Texas to John D. and Margaret Virginia Sentell. She graduated from Rice University in 1935 with a BA in history. She taught elementary school in Woodville, Texas until she married Dr. Lawrence Collins in 1940 in Houston. After WWII they moved to Waco in 1946 where they raised four daughters. Margaret was active in the community including PEO, McLennan County Medical Auxiliary, and PTA. She was a longtime member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the church’s community outreach programs. Margaret supported the Waco Symphony and the Waco Historical Society. She greatly enjoyed travel and was an avid reader. Mrs. Collins moved to Denver in 2001, shortly after the death of her husband. Surviving Mrs. Collins are her daughters Suzanne Wood of Waco, Emily Bolding of Denver, Virginia Powell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Claire Brothers of Denver; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren Frank Wood, Margaret Wood Devine, Collin Brothers, Claire Bolding, Lucy Brothers, and Lauren Powell. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or to Austin Avenue United Methodist Church.
