Marie Louise Cousins Ricketts September 6, 1920 - December 19, 2010 Marie Louise Cousins Ricketts of Waco passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010, at St. Catherine's Center. Graveside services with military honors will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 23, at Oakwood Cemetery with Father John Wells officiating. Marie was born September 6, 1920, in Hewitt, Texas, to Richard and Mildred Cousins. After high school, she attended Jefferson Davis School of Nursing in Houston. Upon completing the program, she enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. She served in Europe for 3 years, attaining the rank of Captain. When she returned to the States, she returned to school, graduating from the Baylor School of Anesthesiology. She worked for 44 years at Hillcrest Hospital as head of the anesthesia department. She loved nursing and anesthesia, setting high standards for herself and others. She was indeed a wonderful person who cared very deeply about her patients and fellow employees. She also had a marvelous sense of humor that would come through at just the right time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard H. and Mildred Attaway Cousins; her husband, Thayer Hibler Ricketts; and one sister, Aileen C. Templeton. She is survived by one sister, Ann Cousins Highsmith, of Waco; one step-son, Charles Abbott Ricketts, Bettendorf, IA; one niece, Nancy Ann Malley, Marion, IN, three great nieces and several step-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Marie would prefer donations to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, St. Catherine's Center, Providence Hospice or your favorite charity.
