MARIE YARBROUGH October 13, 1915 – January 23, 2007 Marie Yarbrough passed away on January 23, 2007 in Austin, Texas at the age of 91. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 29th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room with Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Marie was born to C.N. and Kate Dunlap on October 13, 1915 in Carlton, Texas. She was one of 10 children and her parents and her siblings preceded her in death. She was raised in Knox City and graduated from Knox City High School in 1932. She married Gordon Ray Yarbrough in 1934. She was a Houseparent with 13-14 year old girls and then a Houseparent Supervisor at Waco State Children’s Home for over 20 years retiring in 1975. After retirement she worked in the Day Care Center at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. She was a Baptist and had been a member of Western Heights and Park Lake Drive Baptist Churches of Waco. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Faulkner and her husband Pat; granddaughter, Cindi Faulkner; grandson, David Faulkner and his wife, Marlena; adopted granddaughter, Dana Howland and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stilwell Teachers Residence, 5400 Laurel Lake, Waco, TX 76710 where she lived for several years before moving to Austin in 2005 or West Oaks Rehab and Health Care Center, 3200 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin, TX 78745 where she has lived for the past several months in Austin.
