Mary Margaret Mayfield March 15, 1916 - February 20, 2008 Margaret Mayfield of McGregor passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery. She will be in-state at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Margaret was born in Chilton, Texas on March 15, 1916 to Buford and Madge Jones Mayfield. She graduated from Lorena High School in 1932, from Baylor University in 1936 with a degree in education, later earning her Masters Degree in Education. Margaret taught in Orange, Moody, Bruceville and the Waco Methodist Home before starting her career with the Waco ISD. In Waco she taught choir and sixth grade at Sul Ross, Dean Highland, and Alta Vista and later taught fifth grade before concentrating on teaching reading. Margaret wrote many programs in rhyme for the children to perform. After a 45 year career in education she retired in 1981. Margaret was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Waco Retired Teachers Association. She loved to play games, especially bridge. For many years she played with a monthly bridge group. Traveling was a part of her life through the years to many locations in the United States. Margaret enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She taught Sunday school and was a substitute organist for Lorena United Methodist Church until 1970 when she moved to Waco. Margaret volunteered as a money counter at First United Methodist Church of Waco for eleven years after retiring from teaching. She was also a volunteer with Providence Hospital Auxiliary from 1981 to 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, W.H. Billy and Jewel Mayfield. She is survived by her niece, Diane Fehler and husband, Edward; and nephew, Billy Mayfield and wife, Sherry. Also surviving her are Kimberly, Dean and Hannah Brunner; Stephen, Casey, Kody and Makenna Fehler; Kelly, Sheri, Garrett and Cole Mayfield; and Lindy Mayfield and numerous cousins and friends.
