Molly Maloy

Molly Maloy November, 5, 1946 – December 21, 2006 Molly Maloy of Waco passed away at her home on December 21, 2006. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 23 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Molly was born in Waco on November 5, 1946 to parents, L.H. Maloy, Jr. and Minnie Alice McBride Maloy. After graduating from Reicher Catholic High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Science in Education from Baylor University. Molly held professional certificates in Mid-Management, Supervision, Special Education and Reality Therapy. Molly began teaching for Waco ISD in 1974 and became principal of the WISD Alternative School in 1983. She was then asked to serve as principal of the Carver Sixth Grade School where she was responsible for the implementation of interdisciplinary curriculum units for 1000 sixth graders and developed STARS, a program for over age at-risk students. In her twelve years at Carver, Molly, her faculty and staff researched the most successful curriculum for middle school students, created integrated curriculum “odysseys” and recruited students from all over WISD when Carver became the magnet school, G.W. Carver Academy. Molly served as principal of Waco High School from 2000 until her retirement and subsequent move to Reicher Catholic High School. Her career included personal awards as WISD Principal of the Year, YWCA Pathfinder Award, TASSP Middle School Principal of the Year and TASSP Outstanding Principal of Region 12. Awards she received for her school included Texas Mentor School Principal, Texas School of Excellence Award, Blue Ribbon Award Winning School, and Chase Manhattan/Fordham University National School Change Award. Molly was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert William Maloy. She is survived by daughters, Amanda Bradley Max Hernandez of Austin and Stacey Abraham Paul Abraham of Jackson, Mississippi, three grandchildren, Jillian Elise and Bradley Miles Abraham, and Sean Hernandez; sister Betty Davidson Tom Davidson of New Orleans, Peggy O’Dell of Cincinnati, and Penny Gifford John Gifford of Waco; two brothers, James William Maloy Bill of Lubbock and Michael Dennis Maloy Mike of Houston; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by thousands of students and teachers whose lives she touched and whose lives touched hers.
