Natalie West

October 4, 1916 — January 5, 2004

NATALIE WEST Natalie B. West died Jan. 5, 2004, in San Clemente, Calif. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9. Natalie was born in Montgomery, Ala., to Anderson Sibley Barnes and Olga Warriner Barnes. She was a graduate of Huntington College and received her master's degree from Peabody College Vanderbilt University in Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. West taught English at the University of Houston prior to moving to Waco. At the time she retired from McLennan Community College in 1984, she had taught for over 25 years. Mrs. West did graduate work at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, where she met and married D. Joseph V. West on Jan. 24, 1949. She and Dr. West moved to Waco where he taught psychology and was later director of counseling and testing at Baylor University until his death in 1981. She was a longtime active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Also, while living in Waco, she was a volunteer for the YWCA and YMCA. She was a member of the Baylor Roundtable and had served as President for one term of office. After moving to San Clemente in 1998, Mrs. West attended Pacific Coast Church, and also volunteered for the Jesus Film Project with Campus Crusade for Christ. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Charles W. Barnes; and sister, Betsy Barnes Webber. Survivors included her son, Fred J. West and wife, Mary Lil; grandson, Joseph Coggin West; several nephews and one niece. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to The Jesus Film Project, 910 Calle Negocio #300, San Clemente, CA 92673 or Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.
