Neleen Gassaway June 5, 1914 – January 22, 2007 Neleen Gassaway, a native of the Waco area, died Jan. 22, 2007, in Albuquerque, N.M., after a brief illness. A visitation will be held at French's Mortuary at 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, Monday, Jan. 29. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1 at Waco Memorial Park. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home will be in charge of services in Waco. Mrs. Gassaway was born in Lorena, Texas, on June 5, 1914, to Ed and Azalene McClain. She married J.L. Gassaway on Sept. 19, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Gassaway and her husband operated farms for many years in the Waco area. She ran a neighborhood grocery store in Waco from 1946 to 1955. Later she worked with her husband in managing the Rogers Delinted Cottonseed Co. plant in Robstown, Texas. Neleen Gassaway is survived by a daughter, Barbara Casey of Dallas, Texas, and a son, Bob Gassaway of Albuquerque. Other survivors include her son-in-law, Jack Casey Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gassaway, and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
