August 8, 1910 — April 9, 2004

SELF, PAUL Paul W. Self, 93, of Gholson, passed away Friday, April 9, 2004 at a local hospital. Services will be at 2:30pm, Tuesday, April 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Chapel with Dr. Tom Tribble officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Monday, April 12 at the funeral home. Mr. Self was born August 8, 1910, in Rosebud, Texas, to John and Rufie Self. He lived his life doing what he loved, rodeoing and ranching. Paul roped the first calf roped in the H.O.T. Coliseum. He was a member of West Longhorn Club. He was a Veteran of U.S. Army, WWII. Paul and his wife of 34 years, Bernice, moved to Gholson in 1978 where they shared many special times with their family and friends. His grandsons will always remember their beloved “Paw Paw” cheering for them at almost all of their soccer and Little League games and teaching them to ride and care for their ponies. We will all miss you, Paw Paw Paul. Mr. Self was a charter member of the Western Heights Baptist Church in Waco. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Self of Gholson; stepdaughter, Beverly Guidroz of Waco; stepson, Cliff Sharpless, Jr. of Grand Prairie; 2 grandsons, Stephen and Paul Guidroz of Waco; sisters, Bobbye Lawson of Carlin, Nevada and Teddye Tribble and husband Tom of Euless; one niece and two nephews. Pallbearers will be Rodney Easterwood, Cliff Sharpless, Jr., Stephen Guidroz, Paul Guidroz, Tim Frenzel and David Atherton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Pladsen, Bryan Goodnight, Jack Parks, and Paul’s long time friend and buddy, Rudy Koonsman. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
