Percy Lamar Hough July 17, 1929 July 19, 2014 Percy Lamar Hough, a longtime resident of Waco, passed from this earthly life on Saturday, July 19, 2014. Funeral services are slated for 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the very long time friend and Reverend William "Bill" Horick officiating. Burial will be at Bosqueville Cemetery beside his beloved wife, Mazelle. Visitation with family members will be 6:00 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Funeral Home. Percy was born July 17, 1929, in Wadesboro, North Carolina, to Ben H. and Emily Wortham Hough, the second of two sons. The Hough's moved to Waco in 1929, where Percy graduated from Waco High School in 1947. Percy was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates right out of high school and played baseball in the minor leagues for several years before being drafted in the Army and serving post-war Germany. While in the Army the Chicago Cubs purchased his contract and he played several seasons before coming home to Waco. Percy attended Baylor University before starting a job at Owens-Illinois Glass Container Plant. He retired in 1984 from the Corrugated Department at O.I. On April 25, 1953, Percy married Mazelle Neel, his beloved wife until her death on November 28, 1997. Percy and Mazelle were blessed with two loving children, Debbie Hough Price of Irving, Texas, and Alan Neel Hough of Waxahachie, Texas. Percy was a longtime member of St. John's Methodist Church, which is now Central United Methodist Church. Percy is survived by his daughter, Debbie Hough Price; his son, Alan Neel Hough and wife, Pamela Hough; three wonderful grandchildren, Bradley Hough and wife, Cara, Bonham Hough and wife, Misty, and Benjamin Hough and wife, Christina; a brother, Ben Hough of Waco; and many other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express our thanks to the staff nurses at Providence Hospice of St. Catherine Center for the love and care given to Percy.
