Richard Anthony Salome, 42, of Waco, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. Rosary will be recited at 2pm Sunday, Feb. 6, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Visitation with the family will follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2pm Monday, Feb. 7, at St. Louis Catholic Church, with Monsignor Mark Deering officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Richard Salome was born March 29, 1962, in Waco, to Tommy G. and Martha Baur Salome. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1980 and received an Associates Degree from Texas State Technical Institute. He was owner and manager of Regal Tire and Retreading in Waco. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and Hedonia Club of Waco. He was an Emergency Rescue Diver and a Certified Mechanic. Richard married the love of his life, Krista Nielsen, August 13, 1983. They had four sons. Family meant everything to Richard. When the boys were young he coached HOT Soccer and Lake Air Little League. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved teaching the boys to hunt and fish. The family enjoyed vacationing on the slopes of Colorado and beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. He flew in helicopters whenever he got the chance. He was an enthusiastic football fan. He would barbeque ribs and brisket; then load up the motor home with family and friends and head for College Station to tailgate with the Aggies. Richard and Krista were a volunteer team for many organizations and schools. They worked at the Brazos River Festival for many years and were Chairmen in 1995. He was very creative and good with his hands. He built the trains for the BRF Children’s Area. Richard and his family enjoyed turning their front yard into a winter wonderland for the Christmas holidays. Whenever friends or family needed an electrician, carpenter, or mechanic, Richard would always be the first to arrive and last to leave. He was happiest when helping others. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Collin Anthony. He is survived by his wife, Krista; sons, Cameron Taylor, Chandler Austin, and Clayton Tyler; parents, Tommy and Martha; brothers, Tommy G. Buddy III and wife Anne, Robert Joseph Bobby and wife Colleen, and Gregory Louis Greg and wife Kim; aunts, Christine LeBoeuf, and Ann Bechtel and husband Bill. Other survivors include mother-in-law Patricia Devine Nielson; sister-in-law Karen Conine, and husband, Bill; brothers Keith Hap Nielsen and wife Lesley, Kent Nielsen and wife Pat, Kevin Nielsen and wife Laurie, and Kyle Nielsen and wife Kimberly; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pallbearers are Randy Allison, Ken Bowen, Kim Hodges, Ed Mazanec, Don McKinney, Kent McReynolds, John Restivo, Ernie Stiba, Tommy Sutton, and Steve Wessinger. Honorary pallbearers are friends from Rivergate Retreat.
