Logue, Judge Bill January 22, 1924 - October 12, 2005 The Honorable Bill Logue of the 19th District Court and Juvenile Court, in McLennan County, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15th, at Seventh and James Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Bailey and Dr. Wilbur Swartz officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 14th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Seventh and James. Judge Bill Logue was born in Waco, the youngest of T. J. and Maggie Logue’s seven children. A graduate of Waco High School class of 1941, Judge Logue received his B.B.A. degree from Baylor University in 1947. He served with the 99th Infantry Division during World War II in the European Theatre where he was taken prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. He earned his L.L.B degree from Baylor Law School in 1949. Judge Logue had a distinguished career, serving 47 years on the bench. He entered the legal profession and was elected to his first public office in 1951 as Justice of the Peace for McLennan County. He then served as County Judge from 1955 to 1960, at which time he was elected as Judge of the 19th District Court and Juvenile Court. During his distinguished professional career of public service, Judge Logue received many honors. Some of these include the First Annual Charles O. Betts Award for Excellence as Juvenile County Judge by the Texas Institute on Children and Youth, 1977; Baylor Law School Lawyer of the Year, 1993; First Annual Bill Logue McLennan County Youth Collaboration Lifetime Achievement Award, 1993; First Family of Baylor Award, 1996; Distinguished Alumnus of Waco Public Schools, 1999; Outstanding Baylor University Football Fan Award, 1991; and Humanitarian of the Year from Greater Waco Interfaith Conference, 2004; Baylor University Distinguished Alumni Award, 1994. In addition, Judge Logue served as chairman of Juvenile Court Judges of the State Bar of Texas in 1977, 1984, and 1986. The Commissioners Court honored him by renaming the juvenile detention facility the Bill Logue Juvenile Center in 1992. Among Bill’s numerous civic activities, he was former president of the Waco Founder Lion’s Club and Waco Rotary Club, Waco YMCA Board, Woodland Spring Home for the Aged, Baylor Fast Break Club, and past vice president of the Baylor Alumni Association. He served as director of the McLennan County Bar Association. He was a former member of the executive board of Heart O’Texas Council of Boy Scouts, Waco Legal Aid Clinic, Lake Air Little League, Director of Baylor Bear Club, and was a member of the Baylor Development Council. He was a member of Fidelis Lodge No. 1127, AF & AM, Waco Consistory of Scottish Rite and Karem Shrine Temple. He also served as a trustee of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and was a past board member of Buckner Baptist Benevolences. Judge Logue was a loving, caring, courageous man, who committed his entire life to his family, church, community and country. Bill loved working in his gardens and sharing his Christmas candy. He and his walking buddies became paper boys, throwing papers onto the porches of neighbors. He was a great dad! A life-long member of Seventh and James Baptist Church, he was a trustee and past chairman of the Board of Deacons. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife of 54 years, Gloria, had four daughters: Linda and husband Al Picazo, Sharon and husband Rex Boyland, Katherine and husband Jack Hill and Margaret and husband Mark Sudderth. “Big Dad” adored his seven precious grandchildren: Mark, Claire, and Laura Boyland; Bert and Tom Picazo; and Anna and Martha Sudderth. He was preceded in death by his parents T. J. and Maggie Logue, his sister Dorothy Logue Rush, and his brother Dr. Joe Logue. He is survived by sisters Helen Logue Carll, Elizabeth Logue Hightower, brother Dr. Tom Logue, sister-in-law Mary Ross Beazley Shearin, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Judge John Cabaniss, Mr. Dave Campbell, Mr. J.T. Carpenter, Mr. Vernon Garrett, Mr. Wilton Lanning, Judge Ray Mormino, Mr. Lyndon Olson, Sr., Mr. Herman Quinius, Mr. Harry Reed, Mr. Bill Russell, Dr. Dutch Schroeder, Mr. Stanley Williams. Memorials may be made to Seventh and James Baptist Church Building Fund, Hillcrest Hospital or charity of choice.
